“I’m still experimenting when it comes to what I write,” the singer and ventriloquist tells PEOPLE
Darci Lynne is all grown up — and tired of kissing frogs!
The America’s Got Talent alum, 19, is on the hunt for a love interest actually worth pursuing in her new single “Someone Wake Me Up,” for which PEOPLE is exclusively premiering the new lyric video.
“I’m almost 20 years old, so I’ve had my fair share of dates and boys,” Lynne tells PEOPLE. “It’s safe to say I’ve almost lost hope for something real, but this song is hopeful. I hope people listen and believe in true love like I still do!”
The Oklahoma native wrote the relatable track with Shane Henry and Maggie McClure, with whom she also penned her debut single “Push Our Luck,” which came out in February.

“I’ve really been diving into my sound and ‘Someone Wake Me Up’ specifically leans more ‘pop’ than the country vibe of ‘Push Our Luck,’” she says. “I’m still experimenting when it comes to what I write and I’m excited to bring people with me as I do!”
She’s been teasing the track on Instagram for her 1.2 million followers, and earlier this month sat down at the piano for a stripped-down version of the track.

“Do I need to sing it a little louder for the ones in the back!?🤪,” she captioned her video.
The singer and ventriloquist — who rose to fame as the youngest contestant to ever win America’s Got Talent in 2017 — told PEOPLE in February that she started writing music during the COVID lockdowns, and it quickly became something she was “super passionate” about.

Lynne was just 12 years old when she won America’s hearts on the NBC talent show, and she returned to the show earlier this year to compete on America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League.
“It’s crazy for a lot of people,” she told PEOPLE in February. “They all have that 12-year-old in mind whenever my name comes up. And so now it’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s growing up.’”
