Multitalented\u00a0Oklahoman Darci Lynne\u00a0is showing off new sides of herself as a person and musician with her stirring new single\u00a0\u201cSomeone Wake Me Up.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Oklahoma City singer-songwriter,\u00a0ventriloquist and actress, who was just 12 years old when she won the 12th season of\u00a0\u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent\u201d in 2017, released the yearning new ballad Friday, Aug. 23, as the follow-up to her debut single, the spirited country-rock story song\u00a0\u201cPush Our Luck.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like I\u2019m honestly just like every other 19-year-old right now, just trying to figure out who I am and what I want to do for the rest of my life \u2014 and music just plays a huge part in that. And it\u2019s just something you grow in,\u201d she told The Oklahoman in an Aug. 27 Zoom interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith\u00a0\u2018Push Our Luck,\u2019 it was definitely written in that country genre. But\u00a0\u2018Someone Wake Me Up\u2019\u00a0is definitely a little different. It leans more pop-soul. \u2026 I\u2019ve always been soulful and an old soul, but I definitely feel like it\u2019s starting to come out more as I write.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2023 Deer Creek High School graduate, who gained television fame as a\u00a0shy singing ventriloquist on \u201cAGT,\u201d\u00a0has been exploring a new phase in her musical career this year, appearing without her\u00a0trusty puppets\u00a0on the semifinals of the NBC spin-off series\u00a0\u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent: Fantasy League\u201d\u00a0as well as in her award-winning music\u00a0video for \u201cPush Our Luck.\u201d<\/p>\n

As with\u00a0\u201cPush Our Luck,\u201d\u00a0Darci Lynne \u2014 whose full name is\u00a0Darci Lynne Farmer\u00a0\u2014 wrote \u201cSomeone Wake Me Up\u201d with fellow Oklahomans\u00a0Maggie McClure and Shane Henry,\u00a0the husband-and-wife duo known as\u00a0The Imaginaries.<\/p>\n

\u201cEver since we met her, she has a natural, soulful voice. The soul tendencies, that\u2019s really her sound. A lot of the other songs that we\u2019ve written and recorded for her, I would say, all really fit more in the pocket of \u2018Someone Wake Me Up,’\u201d said Henry, who joined the Zoom interview with his wife and Darci Lynne.<\/p>\n
